Celebrate Global Volunteer Month

April showers bring… a time to do good in the world! April is celebrated as Global Volunteer Month. That means people around the world are using this month as a reminder to begin volunteering or to take their volunteer efforts to the next level.

Whether you’re just getting started or a seasoned volunteer, you can inspire others to join in to make our world a better place.

Find Your Passions

Volunteering can always be rewarding, but you’ll find it even more fulfilling if you commit your time to something you’re truly passionate about. Take the time to research organizations that are helping make a difference for causes near and dear to your heart.

If you don’t have an organization you feel passionate about, have no fear! Just dip your toe into  volunteering. Just because you volunteer once doesn’t mean you’re locked in for life. Volunteering for different organizations and causes will help you truly find your passion.

Kickstart Your Volunteer Efforts with These Ideas

  • Volunteer at our Helping Hands of St. Louis Soup Kitchen or Clothing Center
  • Clean Up Litter in the Community
  • Help grow fresh produce in our La Posada and 6th Street Community Gardens
  • Donate Blood to a Community Blood Bank
  • Volunteer at an Animal Shelter
  • Collect Non-Perishable Food Items for our Helping Hands or HOPE Pantries
  • Mow Someone Else’s Lawn (With Their Permission, Of Course!)
  • Host a Fundraiser for Your Favorite Cause
  • Become an Adult Advocate and Guardian
  • Craft for Good—Make Something You Can Donate
  • Fill Backpacks or Provide School Supplies for Youth
  • Become a Mentor of a Returning Citizen

Take it to the Next Level

If you’ve been regularly volunteering but have yet to lead an effort, consider Global Volunteer Month as your sign to kick it up a notch. Sign up to lead an effort at your favorite organization. This could include managing a crew of your own, or simply heading up a new project for the organization that needs an experienced volunteer.

Remember, these are simply ideas to get you started! Check out Catholic Charities volunteer needs or suggest a project of your own. Use this month as an opportunity to find your passion and get out there to spread kindness and love in the world!

Our volunteers are the lifeblood of our Catholic Charities Diocese of Toledo ministries! Together we are the heart and hands of Christ Jesus in the world. #LivingtheGospel #Matthew25 #ThankYou #EasterBlessings
