Helping Hands of St. Louis

Helping Hands of St. Louis, a ministry of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Toledo, is located at 443 Sixth St., Toledo, Ohio, serves low-income and homeless families and individuals. The Outreach Center includes a Soup Kitchen, Food Pantry and Clothing Center. Additional services include providing hygiene packs to families and hot showers and hygiene and snack kits to the homeless. Catholic Charities Diocese of Toledo Ministries Experience Surge In Need

The increase in the number of people Catholic Charities Diocese of Toledo is serving continues to grow dramatically. In the first six months of FY23 (June – December, 2022), when compared with the same time period in FY22, we witnessed:

68% increase in people selecting groceries from Helping Hands of St. Louis Food Pantry

53% increase in bags of groceries distributed to East Toledo residents and Toledo area reentering citizens from our Helping Hands of St. Louis Food Pantry;

48% increase in hot meals served from our Helping Hands of St. Louis Kitchen;

42% increase in number of people receiving food assistance across our service area.   

98% increase in people selecting outwear, clothing, shoes, and small household items from Helping Hands of St. Louis Clothing Center;

52% increase in the number of households served by our Sandusky Furniture Ministry

39% increase in shelter nights at Miriam House in Norwalk and La Posada Family Emergency Shelter in Toledo.

“Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Toledo continues to provide the most basic human needs of food, clothing, and shelter to our communities’ most vulnerable men, women, and children across the Diocese of Toledo,” says Rodney Schuster, Executive Director of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Toledo. “We ask for your prayers to protect and lift our staff and the people we serve.

Annually, Catholic Charities serves 45,000 people of all faiths and backgrounds living in the 19 counties of the Diocese of Toledo, providing food, shelter, crisis and case management, prescription, utilities and emergency rent assistance, education, adult advocacy services, disaster relief and various social justice ministries.
