TOLEDO—Our Helping Hands of St. Louis 13th Annual Shoe Fest will be Saturday, July 25, from 9 a.m. to Noon. We need volunteers and donations of new athletic shoes for kids sizes toddler 10 through adult 10. This event helps each child start their school year off on the right foot!
“Last year we provided new shoes, socks and school supplies to more than 900 school-age children,” says Sue Shrewsbery, Director of Helping Hands of St. Louis, noting children do need to be present to be correctly sized for new shoes. “We focus on East Toledo families, but no child will be turned away, if we have their size shoe. First come, first served."
Volunteers are needed at various times to sort shoes on Fridays July 10 and 17 and set-up Thursday, July 23 and Friday, July 24. Youth groups are invited to help with event prep on Friday, July 24 from 1-3 p.m. and event and teardown from 11:30 a.m. -1:30 p.m. Upwards of 150 volunteers are needed on Saturday, July 25, both adults and teens (who must be accompanied by an adult). Please sign up to volunteer! Or text 419.318.7086 to volunteer or email Catholic Charities Volunteer Coordinator Byron Wynn at bwynn@toledodiocese.org.
Donations of new athletic shoes, children’s socks, backpacks and school supplies such as paper, pencils, pens, markers, crayons, glue sticks, dry-erase markers, hand sanitizer, tissues and Ziploc bags are welcomed. Donations bagged and clearly marked as “Shoe Fest” can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Helping Hands 2nd floor Office, 443 Sixth St., Toledo, OH.
