How Your Donation Helps Diocese of St. Thomas U.S. Virgin Islands Recovery Efforts After Hurricanes Irma and Maria Devastation

Our prayers go out to all who perished, their families, and the untold numbers of people who are injured, homeless, or facing evacuation in the wake of devastation wrought from Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Prayers also go out to all the first responders working to save lives in this devastating time of need. Recovery efforts are expected to take months, if not years.

The weekend of Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, 2017, Bishop Daniel E. Thomas is asking for a second collection to support victims in one of the most devastated areas affected by Hurricanes Irma and Maria—the Diocese of St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. These islands have been almost completely wiped out, left with virtually no infrastructure and few surviving services.

Your financial support will help with long-term recovery efforts in the Diocese of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, providing:

  • needed pastoral care and support.
  • case management to assist disaster victims navigating the system.
  • direct assistance to people unable to get insurance coverage or sufficient government support from FEMA.

Catholic Charities Diocese of Toledo is collecting and forwarding donations dollar for dollar to the Diocese of St. Thomas. Checks should be made out to Catholic Charities Diocese of Toledo, with a Diocese of St. Thomas Recovery notation and sent to 1933 Spielbusch Ave., Toledo, OH 43604.

For those who lost their lives and those who have suffered as a result of the recent devastation from Hurricanes Irma and Maria, may God give them peace, and through our generosity and prayers, help them to rebuild their lives and recover quickly.

Giving Tuesday - Thank You

“A friend told me about La Posada. I came and I was surprised because it doesn’t look like a shelter. It looks just like a home. I was so glad when they told me we could stay. They’ve been so good to me. Honestly, none of this would be happening if I hadn’t been here. They’ve helped me so much.” – Marquita, La Posada resident
