Tornado Disaster Relief Needed In Nashville, Tennessee

Our prayers go out to those who are displaced from their homes or homeless, after a series of deadly tornadoes ripped through Nashville, Tennessee recently. Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Toledo is collecting and distributing donations, dollar for dollar, to help these tornado survivors.

How Your Donation Helps Tornado Victims

Your financial support will help with long-term recovery efforts, including needed pastoral care and support, case management to assist disaster victims, and direct assistance to people unable to get insurance coverage or sufficient government support from FEMA.

As in past disasters, Catholic Charities Diocese of Toledo is collecting and forwarding donations dollar for dollar to sister Catholic Charities agencies in affected areas.

Throughout Tim’s 30+ year Information Technology career, he unapologetically and actively engaged in efforts to encourage spirituality in business and secular workplaces. His faith journey led him to complete a Master of Pastoral Studies degree from Loyola University New Orleans, with an emphasis on spirituality in the workplace and marketplace ministry.

Tim facilitates business leader round-tables exploring the need for a spirit of service in business and organizational missions. He wrote the “Worklife” column for FAITH Catholic Publishing for a number of years and reflections for the campus ministry team at the University of Detroit – Mercy.

Tim was trained as a Certified Associate of the Spitzer Center in 2008, and since then has been actively “spreading the Word.” Active in parish leadership, Tim speaks to numerous groups on the subject of faith and vocation, as well as appearing as a guest on FAITH TV in Lansing, MI, speaking on work, family, and ministry issues.

PERRYSBURG, OH—Join Us! Catholic Charities Fall Gala: “Answer the Call” with His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan and Bishop Daniel E. Thomas, will be held Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019, at the Hilton Garden Inn, The Town Center at Levis Commons, 6165 Levis Commons Blvd., Perrysburg, OH.

Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop of New York, was appointed to the College of Cardinals by Pope Benedict XVI on January 6, 2012. He previously served as Archbishop of Milwaukee, rector of the Pontifical North American College in Rome, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, chairman of Catholic Relief Services and the Bishops’ Committee on Pro-Life activities.

Bishop Daniel E. Thomas of the Diocese of Toledo served under Pope John Paul II for 15 years as an Official of the Congregation for Bishops at the Holy See, Vatican City State, and as an Adjunct Spiritual Director at the Pontifical North American College Seminary, Rome, Italy. On March 9, 1995, he was named Chaplain to His Holiness by Pope John Paul II and later named Prelate of Honor by Pope John Paul II on March 19, 2005.

Meijer Awards Helping Hands of St. Louis $4,730 in Food Gift Cards

OREGON, OH—Thank you all who supported Meijer’s Spring Simply Give campaign! Helping Hands of Saint Louis received $4,730 in gift cards that will be used to purchase much needed food items for our Helping Hands Food Pantry. Last year, Meijer’s Simply Give program provided a record $8.5 million of Meijer food-only gift cards to food pantries across the Midwest.

Helping Hands of St. Louis 6th Annual Shoe Fest A Success!

TOLEDO—Over 70 volunteers spent their Saturday morning, August 10, at Helping Hands of St. Louis, 443 Sixth St., Toledo, OH, washing children’s feet and fitting them with new shoes and socks to get their new school year off on the right foot. Face painting, games and children’s activities kepts the youngsters occupied as they waited their turn.

“Each year we’ve provided new shoes, socks and school supplies to nearly 300 school-age children,” says Sue Shrewsbery, Director of Helping Hands of St. Louis. “This year we fitted over 500 children with shoes on Saturday and another 100 children on Monday!

“We focus on East Toledo families, but no child will be turned away, if we have their size shoe,” Shrewsbery adds, noting children must be present to be fitted for shoes. Available sizes run Toddler size 10 through Youth size 6. First come, first served.

This year, over 700 pairs of new shoes were donated, many purchased through Samaritan’s Feet, with money raised from friends of Helping Hands of St. Louis, local children and a donor from Illinois.

Hannah’s Socks donated 800 pairs of new socks. School supplies + bags were donated by friends of Helping Hands of St. Louis.

Sixth Street will be blocked off, but the parking lot across the street is accessible.

TOLEDO, OH—La Posada Emergency Family Shelter and Helping Hands of St. Louis, both ministries of Catholic Charities Diocese of Toledo, offers big thanks to all who donated backpacks and school supplies for children who are currently residing in the shelter, were La Posada house guests this past year, are currently in Permanent Supportive Housing, or part of a family served at Helping Hands of St. Louis.

Children received these school-year specific items at Catholic Charities 7th Annual Housing Support Picnic on Monday, August 5. Helping Hands of St. Louis will continue to distribute available school supplies to needy families through August 30. Parents are asked to bring in their child’s school supply list to Helping Hands, 443 Sixth St., Toledo, OH.

BEDFORD HILLS, MI—The July 27th Helping Hands of St. Louis Golf Outing at Bedford Hills Golf Club, 6400 Jackman Road, Temperance, MI, has been canceled. But keep checking back for the new date.
