March, 2011 Floods

The Diocese of Toledo has experienced severe flooding in several of our counties.  Hardest hit has been Richland and Hancock counties.  Full damage and results are yet to be determined, but many have lost furnaces, hot water tanks, damage to foundations and, in some cases, a total loss to all their household goods.  Catholic Charities' staff is assessing local communities currently.  Monetary Donations are needed.  Please send your donations to Catholic Charities- Flood Disaster Response, 1933 Spielbusch Ave., Toledo, OH 43604.  We also ask for your prayers for our brothers and sisters who are suffering from this most recent flood disaster.  We will provide more information as it becomes available.

Stories of Hope

Helping the Vulnerable

In Norwalk, Catholic Charities, staff intervene on behalf of the vulnerable.

The 55-year-old man had always lived with his mother, who took care of him. When she was admitted into a local nursing home, he lapsed into a marginal existence. He was frequently exploited by neighbors who invited him to buy beer and drink with them.

Catholic Charities was able to provide him with financial education to help him make better decisions. He was placed in an apartment at another location and teamed with a local support group for ongoing contacts to help him avoid similar problems in the future.
